Since 2015, Sweden has adopted several global sustainability agendas: among others, the UN 2030 Agenda with 17 goals for sustainable development, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda. The New Urban Agenda is a concretisation of goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities. It highlights the fact that a majority of the goals have to be implemented at the local level. But what does that imply for Sweden – and what does the government have to do in order to support municipalities in the implementation? The report focuses on how the global agendas can be put into practice, and presents 60 guiding principles and suggestions of what an integrated urban development policy should contain.
