Sweden Local2030 Hub

Together for an inclusive urban development

Over 65 percent of the sub-goals of the 2030 Agenda depend on decisions made on a local or regional level. How our societies develop locally is therefore decisive for how we transition to a fossil-free, equitable and sustainable future.

Sweden Local2030 hub is one of eight global United Nations Local2030 Hubs and will accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level. The focus of the Sweden Local2030 Hub is to build capacity for inclusive and sustainable development among cities, municipalities, and regions as a means to achieve the other SDGs locally, contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda globally.

What is Sweden Local2030 Hub?

Sweden Local2030 Hub is the latest of eight global UN hubs and has been established with the goal of promoting capacity building in inclusive and sustainable development with a focus on local implementation of the SDGs. The hub is a platform for capacity building, knowledge sharing and collaboration between key players in the local implementation of the SDGs.

“This new Sweden Local2030 Hub is providing crucial leadership and solutions to help us get on track towards achieving the 2030 Agenda.”

Lara Blanco Rothe, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Development Unit, Executive Office of the Secretary-General

How does the UN Hub support the localisation of the 2030 Agenda?

Sweden Local2030 Hub is a platform by and for its members – who are stakeholders from civil society organizations, municipalities, private sector, research institutes and networks working within different thematic areas to promote sustainable local development. Sweden Local2030 Hub operates as a network for the networks and bridge existing gaps between organizations, projects, and stakeholders and improve the coordination between initiatives and facilitate cooperation for more holistic approaches to SDG localization. This is why the hub contributes to the implementation of the following Sustainable Evelopment Goals:

  • Partnership for the goals (SDG 17)
  • Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)
  • Gender equality (SDG 5)
  • Reduced inequalities (SDG 10)

“I am convinced that new Local 2030 hub will mobilise all actors to accelerate local SDG implementation in Sweden and also help to share their extensive knowledge and experience across the globe.”

Shipra Narang Suri, Chief, Global Urban Practices Branch, UN-Habitat
